A free ChatGPT folders extension
Updated
Chatshelf adds folders to the ChatGPT chat list for free, with no account. Free keeps up to 8 folders, and Pro, at €29 a year, removes the limit. It runs on Microsoft Edge today, and the Firefox version is in review.
Chatshelf runs in Microsoft Edge and Firefox on desktop. No account.
What free includes
- Up to 8 folders, with subfolders counting toward the 8, and colours.
- Pinned chats, and search across every chat title and the text of your 20 most recent chats.
- Markdown and JSON export of the open chat, five saved prompts, and backup and restore.
Free has no time limit and needs no account. Pro adds unlimited folders, auto-file rules that sort new chats by a word in the title or by site, search across every saved chat, and zip export. It costs €29 for a year or €49 once, as one-time passes that do not renew.
How to start
- Install Chatshelf and open chatgpt.com. A Chatshelf section appears above the chat list.
- Press + Folder and name it.
- Drag a chat from the site’s list onto the folder, or open the chat and use Move to.
Where it runs
Chatshelf is on Microsoft Edge Add-ons today. The Firefox version is in review. There is no Chrome listing yet, so if you came looking for a Chrome extension, this is not one at the moment. Filing a chat is a label kept in your browser. The chat stays where it is on the site.
Compared with paid folder tools
Some folder extensions charge a monthly fee or ask you to sign in. Chatshelf stays free for 8 folders and keeps everything on your machine. Two comparisons give the numbers: Chatshelf vs AI Toolbox and Chatshelf vs Sortbase. Chatshelf keeps growing from what people ask for, and the roadmap page takes suggestions.
